The Dallas Morning News did a nice write up this week on Dan Tomlin III’s $17,000 donation to the Dallas County Sheriff’s office to cover the department’s holiday meal.
“Sheriff Valdez, who already had raised $2,650 from local businesses, was faced with the decision to cancel just two days before the event or fork over $17,000 of her own money to keep her promise to her employees.
She decided to foot the tab herself.
Then, on Tuesday morning, local developer Dan Tomlin III of Tomlin Investments called the Sheriff’s Department to say he was writing a check for $17,000 to cover the shortfall. Others, including employees, chipped in some money.
“All of the county people are always overlooked. They do a lot of good for all of us,” said Mr. Tomlin, a longtime friend of the Dickey family. “We thought we’d give something back to the community.”
Sheriff Valdez said she was grateful for the corporate donation.
“This wonderful generosity is in the best tradition of the holiday season,” she said in a prepared statement. “These sponsors recognize the services that the Sheriff’s Department provides to the people of Dallas.””
